Andrea Berger | Blue Hills Lavender

What is your business, and what do you make?
My Husband and I started Blue Hills Lavender 2 Years ago, located in the foothills between Vernon and Armstrong.  We grow several varieties of Lavender and produce all natural Lavender based health, beauty and décor items.  Everything is farm crafted right here, in small batches to ensure freshness and quality.

How did you get started in this business?
I blame it on my Husband lol. It was his idea to plant Lavender.  I now Love, Love, Love the Scent of Lavender and could not live without it in my everyday live.

Is this a full time job for you?
Yes, I can happily say that planting, weeding, harvesting and everything else that goes in to running a Farm has become my life!  Many evenings my back, arms and legs are sore and tired, but I feel fortunate to be able to enjoy (almost) all that comes with “ the job”, including tending to my Cats, Dogs, Goats, Chickens and my Mini Donkey named “ Mister BIG “!

What is your first memory of making something?
Sitting in my Grandma’s living room on our farm in Switzerland learning how to Crochet and Knit.  Grandma never just sat there, she was always knitting or crocheting, no matter what else she was doing.

What are your favorite and least favorite things about being craft fair vendor?
I absolutely love interacting with my Customers, answering questions or just chatting about the weather.  Sometimes, working at home can get a bit lonely and having that interaction and feedback can be very inspiring. No matter how short or long, Craft Fairs can be very tiring.

What is the biggest compliment you’ve ever received about your work?
I have had many repeat customers, which is a huge compliment in itself, but at times a Customer has taken the time out of their busy day to call me just and let me know how much they love my products!

What is one holiday tradition in your family?
We really enjoy giving handmade gifts. Quality over quantity.

What was the last gift you gave someone?
A Bottle of Okanagan Wine

If you could be a superhero, what would you want your superpowers to be?
I would want to be able to travel at the speed of light between Canada and Europe…I grew up in Switzerland and still have 3 sisters, aunts, uncles etc, and now also my Daughter that live there and would love to be able to go visit anytime!  I miss them and my “first” home every day. Aside from that, Skype is a great “super power”

If you won $20 million in the lottery, what would you do with the money?
Pay off debt… Build this Farm to exactly what we want, but faster…Share with my kids and Sisters and travel!

Describe your workspace/studio in three words.
Organized, Clean and Loud Latin or French Music!
