Erika Penner | NEU Skin Botanicals
What is your business, and what do you make?
I’m the creator and CEO of NEU Skin Botanicals, a luxury skincare company that creates bath and body products from 100% natural, plant based ingredients.
How did you get started in this business?
I’ve always used natural products and one day started making just for my family…realizing how popular the items became I was encouraged to start a company so that others could purchase beautiful natural products too!
Is this a full time job for you?
Sometimes it feels like it is, but my full time job is actually taking care of my 2 toddlers, Alexa is 4.5 and Elyse is 2.5. This is my second job which allows me some personal time away from the home and a chance to connect and have a few more adult conversations 😉
What is your first memory of making something?
Coffee! Our coffee scrub was the first item I ever created….I’m a coffee addict, especially for fair trade, local roasters…so you can be sure all our items have only the finest, local ingredients I can find.
What are your favorite and least favorite things about being a craft fair vendor?
Least: Time….it’s the one thing you never get back and you don’t get paid for. Craft fairs can sometimes be excruciatingly long.
Favorite: Purchasing local! Before I started my business I used to do all my shopping at the mall…I can happily say that all my Christmas, birthday and such shopping is done via farmers markets and craft fairs now. Supporting locally made products is so important to me!
What is the biggest compliment you’ve ever received about your work?
That’s a tough one. I get Sooo many repeat customers, which speaks for itself right there. I have had a lot of ‘gift box’ companies pick up my product in the last year…which is super flattering!
What is one holiday tradition in your family?
Stockings! And the gifts have to be wrapped!
What was the last gift you gave someone?
A handmade wine rack to my brother and his wife for their wedding 🙂
What song has been stuck in your head this week?
Selena Gomez- Good for you
If you won $20 million in the lottery, what would you do with the money?
Renovate! My husband and I are slowly renovating our house. My hope is for a new kitchen this year!
